Lack of Medical Doctors in Germany – Passing the “language test” an obstacle for foreign medical doctors

Medical Doctors in Germany

In 2015 a language test for foreign medical doctors has been established Germany-wide to assure communication with patients and doctors on a medical level as well as social. They also should be able to fill out case sheets and be capable to understand medical reports. One part of the test will also be a fictive laboratory call.

Germany needs qualified medical doctors and if foreign doctors meet the requirements, they are greatly appreciated because every third German doctor is older than 60 years and there is a lack of young medical doctors. Germany relies on medical doctors from abroad but they have to meet the requirements.

An essential part of the work of a doctor consists of communication between doctor and patients.

Every fifth foreign medical doctor fails to clear the step one i.e. language test.

This shows how important knowledge of the German language is for medical doctors and how it opens up the possibility of getting a job in Germany.

IAS prepares foreign doctors with language as well as medical language curriculum to overcome the exam. ICPF MED coursework, a one-year coursework, has been especially designed with enough language training as well as observer ship so that a foreign medical doctor understands the work culture in Germany. Every year foreign students can join ICPF MED in April or in October. To know more about the program do visit our official website: http://www.iaos.de/courses/icpf-med
